Description of Practice
I instill hope for positive change with those I work with. I remind them that they are striving for growth, and their willingness to embark on therapy indicates their courage and motivation to recover.
Addiction, codependency, emotional eating and other compulsions and self-harming behaviors are exacerbated by stress and dysfunctional relationships. By working with the family, as well as with the individual who has "the problem," change and lasting recovery become possible -- if the milieu remains unchanged, the self-harming behaviors are likely to persist. Problems generally originate as a result of early family relationships, and family dynamics play a significant role in the recovery process. Even when working only with one person, the relationships among family members and friends, and the larger cultural influences, need to be addressed.
