Deepen your knowledge about psychological assessment in this 2-credit CE presentation with Heather Chamberlain, clinical psychologist and adjunct professor at Dominican University. Heather will discuss different types of assessments including developmental, psychoeducational, personality, and neuropsychological evaluations. She will also talk about what a therapist and a client and/or family can gain from an assessment.

Intended goals:

  1. Participants will be able to identify at least three assessment tools and their usage.
  2. Participants will increase their knowledge about appropriate referrals for assessments by identifying at least one client who might benefit from a psychological assessment
  3. Participants will be able to briefly describe the assessment process as well as the outcome in terms that their clients will understand

Topics include:

  • What is a psychological assessment and what types are available?
  • Why a client might need a referral for assessment
  • Typical assessments in young children
  • Typical assessments in elementary and adolescents
  • Assessments in adults
  • Discussion of case study related to assessment
  • When to refer for an assessment and what to expect from the process

Dr. Heather Chamberlain has been working with children and families since 2003. She has taught at Dominican University since 2013 and has worked in a variety of settings including homeless shelters, the Marine Corps, Kaiser, and community mental health. Currently she has a private practice in San Rafael, Marin Meaningful Therapy and Assessment Center, where she offers therapy and assessment services for children, teens, families, and parents.
