Treating Attachment Pathology at the Ego State Level,
Presented by Myron Walters, LMFT, CMT
In this presentation, Myron Walters, LMFT, will focus on some of the highlights of what he has learned in the treatment of individuals with severe attachment pathologies, such as those observed in highly traumatized, dissociative clients. This will include a cursory description of the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) assessment and classification system which he adopts in his work. Myron Walters applies the AAI classification at the ego state level in the treatment of his clients who present with severe attachment pathologies. The presentation will also include relevant case examples demonstrating how specific ego states are encouraged to move toward an earned secure attachment, including working with our client’s meta-cognitive skill deficits. The speaker’s objective and hope is that, after this presentation, you as a therapist will have a sense of the major characteristics of specific insecure attachment styles, as well as of some of the typical treatment challenges and benefits that result.
