Presented by Fiona Brandon, LMFT

2 CEs available

PLEASE NOTE: Marin CAMFT has made a slight change to how our Zoom meetings work: After you sign up here, you'll be sent instructions on how to complete a separate registration step with Zoom. You'll need to complete that registration step in order to get your Zoom link. You can do it in advance, or right before the meeting begins. Each person will get their own personal Zoom link. This lets us more accurately track attendance in the Zoom meeting for our compliance purposes as a CE provider.

Workshop Description

This 2-hour experiential workshop will offer participants practical tools and inspiring ideas for integrating mindfulness and compassion practices into their work with clients. These practices can help clients regulate their nervous system while gaining new insights into their healing process. During the training participants will be guided in a mindfulness-based practice and a compassion-based practice. After each practice a case study will be presented. The case studies will illustrate practical ways for integrating the practices into clinical work in explicit and implicit ways. Participants will have time to integrate their learnings through brief writing exercises, larger group discussions and Q&A. The training is helpful for new and seasoned clinicians as well as beginner and advanced meditators. Therapists do not need to have a background in meditation to benefit from this training on using mindfulness techniques with clients.

Educational Goals

This presentation will teach a mindfulness-based practice and a compassion-based practice, both of which can be used with clients during session to help them regulate their nervous system. This training covers ways therapists can use contemplative practices to increase patient insight during clinical work.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe 2 ways mindfulness uses "top-down" processing to regulate “bottom-up processing”
  2. Explain to clients at least 3 ways in which mindfulness meditation helps to regulate the nervous system and decrease depression and anxiety
  3. Describe at least 2 ways in which compassion-based meditations can be helpful for clients from non-dominant groups
