Help Your Couples Move from Gridlock to Dialogue

Presented by: Lisa Lund, CRC, LMFT
1.5 CEUs

Gottman’s research has taught us that most relationship conflicts revolve around perpetual issues. In these cases, the couple has either established a state of “dialogue” with the issue or a state of “gridlock” around the issue. Couples in gridlock typically pass through a number of conflictual stages, beginning with individual dreams in opposition,

moving to entrenchment of positions, most often in the form of fears of accepting influence, and finally resulting in partners’ emotional disengagement. In this presentation focused on moving couples from gridlock to dialogue, Lisa Lund’s two-pronged objective is to help us learn to identify and recognize the existential nature of perpetual problems and demonstrate how to use a Gottman intervention to help our couples uncover the dreams that lie beneath their entrenched positions.

Lisa Lund, CRC, LMFT, is a Senior Certified Gottman therapist, trainer, and workshop leader. She is also trained in emotionally focused therapy (EFT). Lisa Lund has a private practice both in Novato and Sebastopol, where she offers couples private therapy, adopting the Gottman method, which also includes Extended Sessions and Marathon Couples Therapy for clients, who want to jump-start their weekly treatment. Networking: Lunchtime Lecture meetings include a formal networking period during which ONLY those members who wish to do so, may give a 30-45 second self-introduction and pitch about their practice. This is a great way to expand one's practice and learn about others’ specialties.
